Heavily influenced by modern masters of music, Chris Koch triggers the subconscious by painting in unison with a wide variety of sounds and vibrations. His energy and affinity toward fun allude to the paradise he seeks.

Koch developed his own form of action painting using a mixture of acrylic paint and water which he “pours” onto the canvas forming rivers and lakes of color drying into moments of unique beauty, followed by the bouncing around of colors through his vibrant palette. This technique combined with automatic drawing enables him to distill complex thoughts through whimsical, symbolic, and cosmic worlds. The outcome entertains and heals.

In harmony with his painting, Koch uses land art as the ultimate abstraction, purely dependent on the here and now, ephemerality frozen in time by a photo. Order, obsolescence, and the return to innocence.

Chris Koch hails from Louisville, KY, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2012 with a major in marketing and minor in art studio. In 2015, he moved to Portland, OR where he currently lives, works, and raises his family.
